NOVEMBER 2010

Inaugural Golf Challenge

Global Conferences Africa’s Inaugural Golf Challenge took place at Steenberg Golf Course in the Cape on Tuesday 19 October 2010 and was voted a great success by those who participated.

Fifty six golfers took part in ideal weather conditions and the ultimate winners were Arniston Hotel Allstars, followed by Conference Communications Killers and Arabella Aces, for a full list of the winners and photographs of the day visit www.globalconf.co.za
Everything was done to ensure that this would be a special and memorable day out, technology played an important part with personalised check-in provided by Conference Systems and a rolling leader board, normally only seen on TV, being updated after 9 and 18 holes. This was a new innovation by Gearhouse South Africa, who also had a video camera at various points on the course.
As part of the company’s corporate social responsibility programme, The Cape Flats Development Association was chosen as the beneficiary and a check for R10000 was presented at prize giving.
South African Tourism was the Platinum sponsor and was well represented, using the occasion to launch the Meetings Africa Golf Day to take place in Gauteng on 24th February 2011.
The function room was decorated by Red Hot Events and looked like the lounge of a Five Star Hotel, this was where prize giving took place and the celebrations, networking and partying carried on late into the evening.
As a result of the success of this Inaugural Golf Challenge, Melanie Campbell, Managing Director of Global Conferences Africa announced that the company will be hosting the second Global Conferences Africa Golf Challenge in Gauteng in October 2011.
Finally, we would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all of our sponsors, South African Tourism, Gearhouse South Africa, Oasys Innovations, AV Alliance, Conference Communications, Protea Hotels, Red Hot Events and Southern Sun Hotels.

Tourvest Inbound Operations rebrands as Tourvest Destination Management

Tourvest Inbound Operations (TIO), the largest inbound tourism wholesaler in Sub-Saharan Africa, has announced a complete revamp of its corporate identity and emerged with a brand new name, Tourvest Destination Management, as well as a fresh new logo.
Explaining the decision to launch a new brand identity, CEO, Martin Wiest, says: “We realised there was a need for a new name, one that more fully encompassed exactly what it is that we do here, as the name ‘Tourvest Inbound Operations’ no longer accurately reflected our core business.”
“While a component of our business still includes operations, this now accounts for less than 20 percent of our total business. Today, our main focus centres on destination management, not just locally, but globally too,” adds Wiest.
Furthermore, Business Tourism (MICE: Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events) has become an increasingly important constituent of Tourvest Destination Management. While this may include an element of inbound travel, regional and outbound travel also features prominently. This meant that the company could no longer be described as merely an inbound leisure business, as suggested by its old name.
Tourvest Destination Management’s Professional Conference Organiser, Global Conferences Africa handles a significant amount of international business outside of South Africa, while T.E.A.M’s expansion into Brazil, New Zealand and London demonstrates its intention to take on both inbound and outbound travel for mega-sporting events around the globe. In addition, the company’s inbound brands have begun to take on a growing amount of regional business.
These shifts in focus have come about through Tourvest Destination Management’s commitment to growth through internal change. Through the careful identification of opportunities, and with the support of dedicated partners, the company has been able to mould its divisions to meet the needs of a rapidly-changing global travel and tourism industry.
Together with the name change, Tourvest Destination Management has designed an eye-catching new logo to encapsulate the six core objectives the company continually strives to achieve: to be modern, timeless, creative, innovative, fast growing and profitable.

With a revitalised and more representative brand, Tourvest Destination Management is poised to unlock exciting new opportunities, through acquisitions, exploring untapped customer bases and a strong global presence.
